Worm flow

Underground, your compost worms are safe from the sun and can choose to travel from the life-hub of the Subpod, out into your garden. Air flow

Smelly compost? It’s not something you need to worry about with Subpod. The key to healthy compost is air, and with a unique 360-degree ventilation system, your compost will get plenty of that! Fresh air flows in, and stale air can flow out before it ever turns sour. We designed the size of the Air Flow holes so they could keep out any common pest. Subpod is a vermi composting system

Vermi-composting Not really composting in the traditional sense, vermi-composting uses worms to break down food waste much faster than traditional methods, usually in 2 – 3 months. While poorly designed systems can have issues, Subpod’s unique ventilation and lockable design means it’s smell-free and pest-proof.

Understanding Worms and Microbes

Hidden under our feet is an invisible world of wonders. Worms and microbes can seem daunting to new vermi-composters – but they’re really quite magical. There are thousands of different species of worms (only a handful can be used with Subpod) and millions of different microbes on our beautiful planet.

Worms

There are seven species of worms that will work in Subpod. We recommend starting out with red wiggler worms, but having 2 – 3 varieties can give your system resilience. Some worms thrive where others struggle, or prefer different food types, so having a good mix will set you up for success.

Microbes

Pretty much everything we see and touch is coated with microbes. Bacteria makes us healthy, makes us sick and even makes us happy! The microbes you want in your Subpod are aerobic – these are odourless microbes that thrive in well oxygenated environments. The good news is you don’t need to find them, in fact, they’ll find you!
